R2 is now back up and running after a looonnnnggg break. I completely rewired him, and re-programmed the arduino board to work with the new spectrum dx6i radio I recently got. Now, I steer him with the right stick just like before, and moving the throttle all the way forward triggers a sound, and the landing gear switch will trigger a random mp3 song. Head spins on the left and right throttle stick.
One of the things I was having a problem with is noise in the signal from the motor controller which powers the arduino. The arduino would randomly trigger sounds and songs when moving forward at full speed. I figured it was because of a power spike or some other noise. I now calculate the average difference that the throttle stick moves when moving manually. If there is an odd spike I just ignore it, this seems to have solved the problem.
Things left on the todo list:
Install led panels in the head
build battery boxes for the feet
install psi lights
repaint the head…
After all that he will be ready to go, and I will start again on another one. This time an R5-D4 I think, or maybe even a half sized r2d2….. Will post more pics and vids soon. Thanks for reading.
