Ok, so I was speed testing R2 outside my house on the street…. He was heading toward the curb, and I meant to slow him down, and I actually sped him up!. Anyway, he hit the curb, tipped over and the head fell off! I felt devastated. After investigating the damage, it only appears that he broke the resin holoprojector tips and the battery slammed into and broke an octagon port. Everything else survived! A few scuffs, but I have no problem. R2 should look a little worn here and there!
Anyway I got thinking, these resin Holo projectors are fragile in falls (everyones R2 falls sometime) , so I went searching. I realized from a web page search that the tops from Chain link fences can be dremeled out to be a housing for a holoprojector using a door handle from Lowes….. the top part of the projector is just a cut piece from a scope mouthwash bottle. Anyway, I will post pics of the parts later. If r2 falls again, the scope top might break, but the rest of the holo will live to see another day. I know these parts are not specific to a CNC tutorial, but it is a key part of R2’s head!
